We are looking to form 2 groups maybe 7-10 in each group, a slow and a fast group. (if we feel you are taking the pee, by  being a fast man opting for the slow group, you will soon be promoted forthwith). 39 x 21-25 will definitely be the way to go, be sure of that. We like to see bikes fitted with mudguards, and please NOTHING UCI illegal, for example no carbon 16lb stripped down race bikes with best wheels and tyres fitted, 25mm tyres are the best choice in my opinion.

There will be a car taking all necessary kit, so no need for panniers etc….(please note, this will not be a broom wagon, just a bag carrier for your arrival and your hopeful return). Day one will comprise of 2 stages, with a cafe stop in the middle, totalling about 95 – 100 miles. Day 2 is a little easier, ranging from 70 to 90 miles, also with a cafe stop. We normally find a pub to replenish our calories and dampened spirits in the evening. Don`t forget if you partake of too much ale and there will not be one ounce of mercy on the Sunday. We have a moral code, polite riding, following the rules of the road etc…no jumping lights please! This is not a road race this is simply to come out of the weekend, battered, bruised and most definitely stronger physically and mentally than you went into it. We have no egos amongst us, just good old fashioned road men, who like to work and play hard. The most important thing you can bring with you is a good sense of humour and the ability to laugh at yourself.  GO ON GIVE IT A GO. Cost excluding spending money £25-£40. (dependent upon cost of accommodation and petrol)

ts being forwarded to our current publicity secretary. The reasons I`m not too sure about, but I’m guessing we are all suffering from modesty and shyness. Lets get this right, whilst there are blokes and to be pc, women, kicking bags of air around on patches of grass, getting way too much adulation and publicity, I can not see, for the life of me, why everyone is being so modest. We all compete at different levels and at different branches of the sport, but any success deserves and should be publicised. We should also being looking further ahead than just ourselves. The next thing I ask is do we want any new blood being interested in joining the South Pennine? I would like to think yes. Without new blood where will we be in the next 50 years? Answer, not here! What has this to do with publicity I hear you ask. Well if the new blood is interested in cycling, one thing is for sure, if they do not know we exist chances are they will join another club. However if they read about the South Pennine and all that it does, well our chances are increased that they may join us. Fact remains, we are a good club, which has stood the test of time. We have good riders, we continue to achieve, so lets be proud of it and let the world know.
