MORE 50TH BIRTHDAY TREATS!

Next May, once the weather has warmed up, we plan a replica of one of the Club’s earliest  hostel trips to Stowon the Wold on 5th to 7th May.  We will keep as close as possible to the original run but there are some changes because the original participants are 50 years older and some of the roads used in 1962 aren’t exactly cyclist-friendly these days.  Out Saturday and back Sunday seemed a little harsh, so it will be back on Monday with Sunday devoted to a mild tour of the Cotswold villages where Pete Goodburn will ride the ford at Bourton on the Water and ruin his bottom bracket again.

Start will be from Willington at 0900 and 3 or 4 stops should see us complete the 76 miles toStowin the Wold for 1630.  If you want to take part but feel that the entire ride is just too much, partial train (leaving between 5 and 20 miles to ride) or car use is possible.  Accommodation will be at the hostel for authenticity or at one ofStow’s many hotels for greater comfort.  A Saturday evening celebration dinner will be held.

The trip is of course open to all members, but it would be really nice to get as many as possible of the original trip.  John Stewart is organising it (unless the original runs leader, Athol Whitbread steps forward).  The trip is to show that whilst growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional – so join those of us who are opting out.  Let John know if you are interested; he will co-ordinate the hostel bookings but hotels must be individually booked.
